Scotland v Slovenia Preview, Prediction, and Betting Tips: Struggling Scotland could be put to the sword by unbeaten Slovenia

Gordon Strachan is under growing pressure as Scotland boss, after back-to-back 3-0 defeats against Slovakia and England that have left his side in fifth place in Europe's World Cup Qualifying Group F, with only Malta bringing up the rear.

Scotland v Slovenia: Match Preview

Slovenia arrive in second place, two points clear of Slovakia in third, and will want to cement their place in a qualification position with a victory against a team previously tipped to be one of the tough opponents to face in this pool of teams.

    -Malta 1-5 Scotland
    -Scotland 1-1 Lithuania
    -Slovakia 3-0 Scotland
    -England 3-0 Scotland

Scotland have scored just one goal in their last three competitive outings, with their 5-1 away win against Malta being their only truly impressive result so far. Should the hosts fail to win against Slovenia, there is the serious possibility that the manager could face the chop sooner rather than later.

Slovenia have kept clean sheets in their last three group games, successfully keeping the likes of Slovakia, England and Malta at bay. Their shrewd defensive record is such to be an issue for Scotland to break down on the night.

    -Lithuania 2-2 Slovenia
    -Slovenia 1-0 Slovakia
    -Slovenia 0-0 England
    -Malta 0-1 Slovenia

Betting Advice

Jack Hamilton has replaced goalkeeper David Marshall in the squad recently, due to the latter picking up an injury, which should see Craig Gordon start in goal. Otherwise, the hosts have no injury problems and should be looking at full strength.

Scotland have no option but to win this weekend, or their chances of qualification to the World Cup will be slim to none. Slovakia have proven to be tough nuts to crack so far in Group F, which should see them capable of forcing a share of the spoils.
