England v Lithuania Preview, Prediction, and Betting Tips: England to triumph on home soil against struggling Lithuania

Simon Harrison

Gareth Southgate's men will be high on confidence after putting in a good showing against Germany in a narrow 1-0 friendly defeat last week in Dortmund. The Three Lions currently sit top of Group F with an unbeaten record, which isn't looking to be broken against Lithuania.

England v Lithuania: Match Preview

England are yet to concede a goal in their opening four World Cup qualifiers, while Lithuania have conceded seven goals during the same period. At home, the underdogs are unbeaten, but they did manage to take a 1-1 draw away against Scotland back in October.

    -Slovakia 0-1 England
    -England 2-0 Malta
    -Slovenia 0-0 England
    -England 3-0 Scotland

The home side have picked up comfortable victories so far, with Lithuania's trip to Wembley promising the same. The away side's only victory so far in Group F came in a home game against Malta, with their defensive line otherwise proving to be too leaky to earn them three points. Slovakia managed to net four goals against Lithuania last time out, as the latter crumpled in the first half of the match to go 3-0 down inside the opening 36 minutes. A similar collapse could result in England having a field day at the weekend.

    -Lithuania 2-2 Slovenia
    -Scotland 1-1 Lithuania
    -Lithuania 2-0 Malta
    -Slovakia 4-0 Lithuania

Betting Advice

Gary Cahill is missing due to suspension for Southgate's side, which should see John Stones get a start in defence. Phil Jones is unavailable after leaving the England camp due to picking up an injury in training earlier in the week.

England looked good in a new 3-4-2-1 formation against Germany and have been uncompromising in their performances so far in World Cup qualifying, so it is hard to look beyond the Three Lions taking three points and a clean sheet to boot.
