2017 US Open Preview, Key Info and Latest Betting Tips

Westley Ott

For the 137th time, the world’s greatest players will come to the United States of America and head to the iconic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre in New York City for the final Grand Slam event of the year, the US Open.

This year, the US Open 2017 dates are set for the 28th of August to the 10th of September and mark the last chance for Grand Slam glory in the calendar year, with everyone aiming to end the major season on a high.

US Open Winners From the Last Year and Brief Recap

Early on in 2016, US Open betting tips had us all believe the contest would be between Britain’s Andy Murray and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.

This was only half true as Andy Murray was eliminated from the tournament by Japan’s Kei Nishikori at the Quarter final stage in a five-set thriller, whereas Djokovic did manage to make it to the final.

Unfortunately for Djokovic, he came up against a spirited Stanislas Wawrinka who shocked many and claimed his third career Grand Slam title 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3.

The ladies side of the draw was no less entertaining as current world number one Angelique Kerber overcame Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win her second Grand Slam of 2016 and first US Open of her career.

US Open Betting Tips – Who Are the Favourites in the Men’s Tournament?

Andy Murray

Despite there being plenty of tennis action between now and the opening day on the 28th of August, a plethora of US Open starting odds have world number one Andy Murray as a favourite despite a nagging hip injury which reduced his Wimbledon preparation to just one grass court match.

The Brit claimed the title in 2012 and can be backed at the best price of 3/1 with Unibet, Bwin, 32Red, and 888. Remember, odds are likely to change several times, so keep up to date with the latest tennis odds at OddsDigger.

Novak Djokovic

Seven-time US Open finalist and world number two, Novak Djokovic’s US Open 2017 odds make him the second favourite for the title despite two titles at Flushing Meadows. However, that has also coincided with five final defeats.

At the best price of 4/1 with Bwin, Djokovic represents value despite a less than impressive 2017 so far.

Roger Federer

Already in 2017, 35-year-old Federer has claimed the Australian Open, Indian Wells Masters title, and the Miami Masters marking it as one of Federer’s best years on the tennis court.

US Open latest betting views veteran Federer as the third favourite at the best price of 6/1 with bookmakers such as Bet365, Betfred, and 10bet.

Rafael Nadal

Spaniard Nadal is another senior player who is enjoying another lease of life in 2017. He won a record-breaking tenth French Open title in June.

Nadal is a two-time winner of the US Open, most recently in 2013, and can be backed at 8/1 with Bet365.

US Open Winner Odds – Men

  • Andy Murray – 3/1 – Unibet
  • Novak Djokovic – 4/1 – Unibet
  • Roger Federer – 6/1 – Betfair
  • Rafael Nadal – 8/1 – Betfair

Outsider Tips for the US Open Tennis – Stanislas Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori

It is unusual for the defending champion to be so far down in the betting pool as Stan Wawrinka, however, the Swiss has been suffering from a knee injury and finds himself at the best price of 14/1.

Japan’s Kei Nishikori is a very serious threat as he seeks his maiden Grand Slam title, the 27-year-old’s best major performance to date came in the US Open in 2014 when he reached the final losing to Marin Čilić 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

This year, Nishikori can be backed at the best price of 33/1 with Unibet to go all the way.

US Open Women Odds – Who will winn the 2017 US Grand Slam?

Angelica Kerber

The World number one returns to Flushing Meadows as defending champion but has struggled for form in 2017.

During the French Open, Kerber became the first World number one to be ousted in the first round.

This has led to her odds plunging to the best price of 10/1 with Bwin to reclaim her crown.

Petra Kvitová

Kvitová’s return to winning way too soon after suffering tendon and nerve damage to her left hand during a knife attack at her home in December has been remarkable after victory at the Aegon Classic Birmingham last month.

This has led to Kvitová being considered a contender at the best price of 16/1 with 10bet.

Karolina Pliskova

Last year’s finalist, Pliskova is many people’s tip to go one better this year. Of course, standing in her way is her rival Angelica Kerber (who defeated her last year), however, the 25-year-old has since snuck into the world’s top 3.

Having already reached a Quarterfinal and Semi Final at the Australian and French Opens respectively in 2017, Pliskova looks like a good bet at the best price of 7/1 with William Hill and Betfred.

Simona Halep

World number two Simona Halep is still seeking her first Grand Slam title despite having reached two finals (French Open 2014/2017).

The Romanian’s US Open odds have her at the best price of 11/1 with Boyle Sports to mark a maiden Grand Slam title.

US Open Winner Odds – Women

  • Karolina Pliskova – 7/1 – Bet365
  • Angelica Kerber – 10/1 – Unibet
  • Simona Halep – 11/1 – Bet365
  • Petra Kvitová – 16/1 – Bet365

Outsider Tips for the US Open Tennis – Johanna Konta

Brit Johanna Konta has shown arguably the most significant improvement in performances over the last 24 months among all players of the WTA. Despite never having gone further than the fourth round at Flushing Meadows, Konta has already won on American soil in 2017 claiming the Miami title.

It is likely she will bring memories of that performance with her to New York City and at the best price of 14/1, she could be worth a strong look.

With plenty of tennis still to play between now and August, the form of each player can vary dramatically.

However, as things stand, the 2017 US event is shaping up to be one of the best championships we have seen for many a year.
