We don’t have long to wait until the Cheltenham Festival is here, and on the Thursday of the festival, the feature race is the Stayers’ Hurdle. This tests stamina over the trip of three miles, and it takes an extremely tough horse to win the race. The day is also St Patrick’s Day, meaning it is a hugely popular day for Irish visitors, which makes for a great Cheltenham Festival atmosphere. Before we show you the best way to bet on horses at this event, let’s see who won in 2017.

The winner of last season’s race was Nichols Canyon, who sadly won’t be able to defend his crown this season. He won the race very nicely, and was an exciting staying hurdle prospect going forward. He had many good horses in behind him that day, including Unowhatimeanharry, who was third in the race and was sent off the odds on favourite to win. He will be back this season looking to go better than he did then. Let’s now see our Cheltenham Festival tips.
The really exciting horse in this race, that could still be improving is Sam Spinner. He has come from nowhere to stamp his authority on the staying division this season, rising through the ranks and there could still be more to come from him.
The tip to win the Sun Bets Stayers’ Hurdle is Sam Spinner and you can back this hugely exciting young horse at a good price with Bet-At-Home right now. He is an exciting horse, and could potentially turn into a star at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival. After finishing second on his reappearance, he won a very competitive Grade 3 handicap hurdle by 17 lengths at Haydock, before stepping up in class to win a Grade 1 at Ascot. Both pieces of form show he is a genuine Grade 1 horse, and being just a six year old with nine races under his belt so far, there could be a lot more to come, this being a good reason why we chose him for our tips for the Sun Bets Stayers' Hurdle.
His Grade 1 win at Ascot was very impressive, and many of those who will be challenging him at Cheltenham were behind him that day, which makes him look even more solid. He is currently priced at a good value with Bet-At-Home, and that looks to be a big price for a horse that could still be improving, he could prove to be one of the stars of the festival in 2018, and might be a good choice for our racing tips for St Patrick’s Thursday as well.
The each way tip for the Stayers’ Hurdle is Unowhatimeanharry, a horse that has been forgotten by some people after disappointing in the race last season. He will stay the distance, and can be close by should anything happen to Sam Spinner. He has a great chance of finishing in the first three at least, and needs to be respected on the day.
Unowhatimeanharry is the forgotten horse in the stayers division. He was beaten at odds on in this race last season, and has been behind Sam Spinner this season, but don’t write him off just yet. He is clearly a talented horse, and if it all drops right for him on the day, then he can go very close here. Unowhatimeanharry is priced up good with Unibet in the latest horse racing odds, which represents good value for a horse who has won and being placed in previous Grade 1 races. One thing for certain with him is that he will stay the three mile distance, whereas other potential contenders in the race may struggle to stay the distance.
If Sam Spinner does show further improvement, then we don’t think anything will catch him in the Stayers Hurdle. However, if there are any problems occur, then Unowhatimeanharry looks likely to be the one chasing him home and ready to take advantage. We hope our The Sun Bets Stayers' Hurdle racing tips will get you some good profits!
