Sunday's Top Tips: Defences Could be on Top Early Doors at Anfield

Simon Winter

IT was a good day on the site for followers of Desmond yesterday as Mr Fixit's old pal landed all seven tips for a bumper payout at 65/1.

He's been threatening to wipe out the bookies recently and a late goal at Bradford City made it a clean sweep on Saturday with a 5/2 To Score 2+ Double, a 2/1 BTTS Double, a 7/2 Over 2.5 Goal Treble and of course, his big roll-up bet of ALL 7 selections. Brilliant stuff.

And well done to all the winners on the site yesterday, hopefully we can build on those with some more today.

With the first piece of silverware already safely tucked up in the Old Trafford trophy room, Manchester United make the short trip to rivals Liverpool in great shape and still in the hunt for a quadruple trophy haul.

A 21st English title looks a forlorn hope but United have shown brilliant form to stay in the mix after losing their opening two games of the campaign.

It was a 2-1 victory over Liverpool that eventually got things heading in the right direction for Erik ten Hag back in August. United could be backed at around the 7/2 mark ahead of that win in Manchester, significantly bigger than the 15/8 available this afternoon away at Anfield.

But what of Liverpool? Aside from their aberration against Real Madrid they're actually on a decent run in the Premier League, winning 10 points from 12 without conceding a goal.

This one looks a tough one to call but if United's run of form is to come to and end it could well be in a match like this one.

United have scored just one goal in their last seven games at Anfield in all competitions and Liverpool don't look as potent as they have done in previous years so backing against goals could be the way to go. Under 2.5 goals pays 6/5 but our old favourite of ‘no goal before' looks tempting with the line set at 26:00 minutes at 5/6.

In Scotland Celtic will be out to set the record straight in Paisley.

The last time the Hoops made the trip along the M8 St Mirren ended their 364-day, 38-game unbeaten run. This time around Celtic rock up to the St Mirren Stadium on a 24-game run without a domestic defeat and off the back of winning the first trophy of the season in Scotland last week.

The Buddies are a well organised, hard worling side who make life tough for most visitors. They've only lost twice at home and their nine conceded is on a par with Rangers. So it could be tighter than the odds suggest this lunchtime.

However, Celtic look irrepressible at the moment and should re-open their nine point lead at the top of the table. With little value to be had in backing the champions at 1/5 lets look at alternative angles.

St Mirren are most ill-disciplined side in the league to date, picking up a league-high 2.52 yellows per game. They've also seen red on five occasions so there's mileage in a card's angle. Referee Alan Muir has one of the lowest card counts at 3.00 but he's only officiated in 7 top-flight games this season.

St Mirren had three players booked on Celtic's last visit and Over 2.5 cards for the home side pays 5/6 today which is a reasonable single. But double over 1 yellow for the home side with Over 2 Celtic first half corners (they average 7.46 in total away from home) for a 7/5 BetBuilder.

Super Single

  • Liverpool v Man Utd – No goal before 26:00 5/6 Bet365
  • Over 1 St Mirren cards & Over 2 first half Celtic Corners 4/5 Bet365
