Ajax face off against Feyenoord on Sunday afternoon, with the hosts needing to try and close a six-point gap at the top of the Eredivise by picking up a victory against their in-form opponents.
The home side haven’t lost in the Amsterdam ArenA since August of last year, while Feyenoord have recently fallen to a narrow 1-0 loss against Sparta Rotterdam away from home.
Ajax have kept clean sheets in three of their last four home matches, scoring 12 times and conceding just once, setting them up perfectly for hosting the current Eredivisie leaders.
Feyenoord, meanwhile, haven’t managed to keep opponents out during their last four fixtures. One-goal victories over PSV Eindhoven and Heerenveen have shown that it isn’t a comfortable task to perch on the division’s summit.
Ajax have drawn of late versus both Groningen and Excelsior, but their form at home speaks for itself. Feyenoord have won 10 of their 13 matches as visitors in the Eredivisie, but the possible injury absence of Eljero Elia could be hard felt.
The hosts need three points to get back in the title race, with their fans demanding as much. Given Ajax’s scoring record at home, mixed with Feyenoord’s tendency to leak goals on the road lately, entertainment should be a given.
