New talents at Well Fargo Championship 2016

Milla Backhouse

Daniel Berger seems a cracking Wells Fargo Champs bet at 45/1 to our tipster.

The 2016 Wells Fargo Championship gets underway on May 5th and runs through May 8th at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The tournament debuted in the PGA Tour in 2003 and immediately began to attract the elite players. The only two-time champion in the history of Wells Fargo Championship is Rory McIlroy. He won the last tournament last season. McIlroy is ranked No. 3 in the world right now. But in 2012 he was beaten in a playoff, so this week he must hold every chance. Mickelson together with Mcllroy can be seen as US Open specialist, although Phil did not win any. Other former champions at the Wells Fargo Championship J. B. Holmes, Rickie Fowler, Furyk, Toms and Glover prove that accuracy of the tee is a necessity. If you want to have an advantage, you need to keep it straight and narrow but not only long.

Rory McIlroy 4/1-9/2 mark is the Bookmakers’ favourites for this week’s Wells Fargo Championship but the form matters a lot. There is a difference between Augusta course and Quail Hollow, where you need a more classical style. Mcllroy could tee it up here in the fine form and romp through this contest but there is a certain risk. The course is rather patchy lately, which can’t be said about Augusta, and he prepared just for this tournament. Certainly, there is a possibility to win but a quite risky one.

What seems to us the most tricky event but we would like to put a bet on it is Daniel Berger’s part. We understand that his rhythm was interrupted due to some delays last week. Half way through round two he was completely on fire before fading light put a halt to his progress. Berger failed to gather momentum for the next 27 holes and left the contention. He was the 28th here on debut at Quail Hollow previous year and we hope that it is a decent effort. He has only been out of the top 30 once in his last six tournaments and the top ten posted at Augusta shows his class. Many will not support him after his fails last week but he had excuses. This classy golfer is worth of a decent bet.

Our second choice is Justin Thomas. He showed even better results with a 7th spot the previous year at his first Quail Hollow. Last year he began to string a number of results and he uses all the chances here this week. His lengths is impressive. Although there are more experiences players here, we are ready to take a risk supporting coming talents.

The next risk, who is really risky is Kevin Kisner. He is rather suitable for such types of tests and had good results here in 2013. Although he is not higher than 23rd in the last seven tournaments, he is a promising investment (but with a small wager) for this type of course.

One more risky bet on offer is Luke Donald. Though his results here are terrible, the way he hit the ball lately and the 80/1 might look a shade big come Sunday evening are impressive. He was the 2nd at the Heritage, so we feel that he is worthy of a small punt.
