2016 KLM Open: Favourites, Betting Tips and Best Odds

Milla Backhouse

After recent dominance from European-based players, will there be a new winner at the 2016 KLM Open?

Golf is a major sport in Europe and there are only a handful of tournaments in which the biggest names take part. One of such events is the KLM Open, which takes place in Netherlands. Conducted in the month of September, the 2016 event will be a departure from the Hilversumsche Golf Club. It has long served as the host of the KLM Open, but the 2016 edition will take place at The Dutch in Spijk. Even though it takes place in a new location, it has not seen a drop in the number of betting tips.

History of the KLM Open

It is often regarded that the period from 1981 to 1990 is regarded as the Golden period for KLM Open, as the event witnessed several great players claim the title. Gordon Brand Jr, Jose Maria Olazabel, and Seve Ballesteros were some of the great golfers to have won the title. In recent years, however, the event has been dominated by European-based players with England being the nation that has provided the most winners in the last decade. Paul Casey was the last Englishman to win the title, but he was beaten by Belgian Thomas Pieters last year. Hence, most of the golf betting tips predict a victory for English golfers or even Pieters to retain the title.

Notable Players

In the past, the tournament has been won by golfers on more than one occasion with Simon Dyson being the most prominent. The Englishman has won the title three times with the most recent coming in 2011. His first two wins – in 2006 and 2009 – were relatively easy as he managed to win quite comfortably, but his final win was very close with success coming only by a single stroke margin. Dyson is someone who cannot be disregarded by punters who bet online since the Englishman has come third and second in the previous two editions. Thomas Pieters won the event in 2015.

KLM Open Outrights

  • The odds for Thomas Pieters to win are 29/5.
  • The odds for Alex Noren to win are 7.
  • The odds for Byeong Hun An to win are 17/2.
  • The odds for Chris Wood to win are 54/5.
  • The odds for Joost Luiten to win are 54/5.
  • In 2015 he won back-to-back at the KLM Open and Czech Masters, and finished a stunning career high of 29th in the Race to Dubai Order of Merit. He will most likely win again this year.

First held in 1923, KLM Open became part of the European Tour from the 1972 season. After struggling to find a sponsor initially, KLM entered into the foray in 1981 and has been enjoying a long-standing association with the event. The history of the event is one of the reasons one can find bookmakers offering their best odds with a lot of competition. In the past, KLM Open has been moved around in the European calendar but it has made the month of September its own, and it is a tournament not to be missed.
