Macedonia recorded their first win in 6 games when they put 3 past a hapless Liechtenstein team in Friday’s World Cup Qualifier. A goal from Nikolov and a second half brace from Nestorovski was enough to give Macedonia their first 3 points in Group G on a balmy night in Vaduz.

Belarus were taken apart by a rampant Sweden side, who put 4 goals past Andrey Gorbunov – the Belarus number one endured a nightmare evening in Stockholm. Belarus are yet to win a game in Group A – it seems the impressive point they took at home against France in the group’s opening round of fixtures turned out to be a flash in the pan rather than an indication of things to come.

The nations have played each other twice before - Macedonia and Belarus were paired together in their Euro 2016 qualifying group, with the latter coming out on top winning 2-1 away and drawing 0-0 at home.

Both Macedonia and Belarus are capable of springing a surprise or two on any given day. Their inconsistent performances make it tricky to identify a definitive favourite for their friendly encounter on Tuesday and the uncertainty is reflected in the outright odds offered by most bookmakers. On this occasion a draw looks the most likely outcome.

I don’t envisage this being an action packed game.
