Inter come into this midweek clash on the hunt for European football, with the sixth-placed club sniffing out a victory that would see them leapfrog Atalanta and take fifth if they can navigate their way beyond a difficult Sampdoria side.
Three points at home would see the Nerazzurri sit just two points off fourth-placed Lazio, while Sampdoria are some considerable way off catching their next-closest rival of Fiorentina. Motivation alone could well be enough to inspire Inter to a victory.
The hosts have scored 14 goals in their last three league games, with in-form Atalanta falling to a heavy defeat last time out at San Siro. Inter haven’t managed to keep a clean sheet in their last four outings, however.
Sampdoria, meanwhile, have been struggling to find their own goalscoring touch. The visitors have netted more than one goal in just one of their last five Serie A fixtures, with key striker Luis Muriel set to miss out for the away outfit.
Juventus only managed to beat Sampdoria by one goal recently, with Inter’s exploits suggesting that they should be good for some more entertainment this time out. The hosts shouldn’t have any real selection concerns, but Ever Banega is expected to be named on the bench.
The hosts have been scoring for fun, while Sampdoria have been picking up some good results of late, meaning that both teams are likely to be able to craft some chances for themselves and put to bed the idea of clean sheets.
