Football Bet of the Day: Sevilla to Strike Twice at Home to Fenerbahçe

Andy Moore

Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to Andalusia, and I like the look of Sevilla making home advantage count in the first leg of their Last-16 Europa League contest.

Sevilla vs Fenerbahçe

Europa League

Thursday 9th March, 20:00

Sevilla will look to distract themselves from their domestic struggles as they welcome Turkish giants Fenerbahçe to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán in the first leg of their Last-16 tie.

Sevilla finished third in their Champions League group behind both Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund to set up a tie with Dutch side PSV in the Europa League playoff round. Jorge Sampaoli’s side defeated the Eindhoven-based club 3-1 on aggregate, which was mainly due to their 3-0 victory in the first leg in front of their supporters. However, Los Rojiblancos’ was thrashed 6-1 away at third-placed Atlético at the weekend, leaving them only outside the La Liga relegation zone on goal difference.

Fenerbahçe ensured they didn’t have to take part in the playoff round, as they finished top of their Europa League, two points ahead of French club Rennes. Jorge Jesus’ visitors won both meetings against Dynamo Kyiv and AEK Larnaca in the group stage but could only draw in their two games against the Brittany club despite finishing two points above them. Fenerbahçe has won both fixtures since the resumption of the Turkish Süper Lig, leaving The Yellow Canaries six points behind league leaders Galatasaray.

Bet of the Day

Sevilla has had a car-crash of a season in La Liga, with the Andalusians sitting outside the relegation zone only on goal difference following their 6-1 hammering against Atlético on Saturday evening.

However, Jorge Sampaoli’s side has won five of their previous six in all competitions at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán – including a 3-0 victory over PSV in the last round. Los Nervionenses have struck on multiple occasions across five of those matches – and I like the look of them bagging another double at home to a Fenerbahçe defence that has registered just three clean sheets across their previous 13 domestic and European away matches.
