Iberostar Tenerife will have to put their successful Champion’s League run behind them as they move their focus back to their Liga ACB campaign against Baskonia.
Iberostar had brilliant run to this year’s final where they triumphed against Turkish side Banvit, but will now turn their attentions to building on their third place standing domestically.
Baskonia Basket are hot on their tracks and sit just one position below Tenerife in fourth with an identical 19-8 record. They have lost just three games in their last 10 and are currently ranked third in the Liga ACB for points scored per game (84.7).
It won’t be easy though as they go up against a team in Iberostar that are ranked number one in points allowed this season, averaging just 71 points conceded per game. They also go into the match on a four-match run of defeats in recent head - to – heads against Iberostar.
Their hopes will rest with Shane Larkin, who leads the team in Points scored (13.6), assists (5.4) steals (1.4) and blocks (2.8). The Brooklyn-born point guard will have to be on top form to guide his team to first victory in five against Iberostar.
Both sides are evenly matched in terms of league form – equal records and just one position separating the two teams. While Iberostar Tenerife will be full of confidence after clinching the Champion’s League, they will be keen to avoid any complacency as their attentions turn to domestic form.
Baskonia Basket have had a mixed campaign in Europe with a good run to the EuroBasket quarter-finals before being humbled by the dominant CSKA in three straight matches.
Overall though, defence will be the key and Iberostar’s number one ranked defence should be the difference in this one.
Odds with Bet365
Bet365 has Baskonia Basket as narrow favourites at 1.76 despite being the lower ranked team. Iberostar Tenerife meanwhile are listed at 2.10 which could provide good value considering their superior standing in the LIGA ACB playoff race.
