The cricket community has rallied around Surrey bowler Matt Dunn and his wife Jessica after the tragic death of their two-year-old daughter Florence.
On Thursday, Surrey County Cricket Club confirmed that Dunn’s daughter, who suffered Dravet Syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy, had passed away.
“We are all absolutely devastated to hear of Florence’s passing and our very best wishes are with the whole Dunn family,” Surrey’s director of cricket Alec Stewart said in statement.
“We will provide Matt and Jessica with all the support that we can.”
Dunn posted a picture of Florence to his Instagram Stories on Thursday with the caption: “You will forever be in my heart.”
In a separate statement on Instagram, Florence’s parents wrote: “To find the words at this time is almost impossible. You were so incredibly loved and the imprint you have left on so many lives is something to behold, you lit up any room you entered. We will be forever so proud of you and your fight baby girl.”
Dunn, a former England Under-19s player, has taken 117 wickets at 36.21 since making his first-class debut in 2010.
He has also represented Surrey in 18 List A and 23 T20 matches over the past 11 years.
