Giddey passes NBA icon as Aussie star notches EIGHTH triple-double in epic ’masterclass’ — Wrap

Josh Giddey notched the eighth triple-double of his career as the Oklahoma City Thunder enjoyed a 116-102 victory over the Brooklyn Nets.

Giddey finished with 15 points, 13 rebounds as well as 10 assists in yet another dazzling display from the Aussie.

The Thunder star was one of several to step up in the second half after the Nets enjoyed a 62-52 lead at halftime.

Oklahoma City dominated the third period by outscoring the Nets 38-20 and 31-25 in the final quarter to cement the 14-point victory.

The win was sealed thanks to an absolute arrow from Giddey when he hit his first three-pointer of the game with just over two minutes left on the clock.

Completely unmarked, Giddey took his time before firing a laser from distance which all but iced the contest.

Giddey was visibly pumped up after sinking the shot as his teammates raced to celebrate with him.

“There’s gonna be nights when the ball just doesn’t go in for you, and that was the case for me early on,” Giddey said. “I couldn’t buy one. But as you play more games and mature, you understand that you’ve gotta find more ways to impact the game.”

He said of the team’s remarkable second half after being down by 16 in the second quarter: “None of the guys on the team gets rattled when we’re down a bit.”

The triple-double continued the Aussie’s dazzling form in March, where he has almost averaged the coveted stat line.

As it stands, Giddey has averaged 17.5 points per game, 9.1 rebounds and 9.3 assists in March.

The win over the Nets improved the Thunder’s record to 34-35 while the Nets slipped to 39-30.

Giddey’s running mate for the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, also had a day out against Brooklyn as he chalked up 35 points.

He surpassed LA Lakers legend Magic Johnson for the second most triple doubles by a player before turning 21 years old — a record held by Mavericks star Luka Doncic holds with 21 triple-doubles.Giddey is tied for 72nd on the all-time list for most NBA triple doubles.
