The All-Weather doesn't normally tickle my fancy at this time of year, I normally leave that stuff to Cairnzy but I felt like some were overpriced yesterday, so it was nice to be rewarded with a winner.
Astrophysics was 5/1 when tipped up, and I was debating going EW as he was on the drift. He did drift but I'm glad I stuck to my guns of going for the straight win as it's more return for less stake. He drifted to 13/2 and managed to get up on the line under a nice ride from Dougie Costello.
Visibility returned a small profit as he was placed in the earlier race at Wolverhampton. I didn't quite catch the race as I was driving but any return is better than no return.
I'm going back to my roots, the jumps racing, but this race doesn't really get the juices flowing on a Tuesday afternoon!
What a stinker of a race this is, but I think LEGENDARY RHYTHM is being slightly overlooked and at the prices, I'll be having a play. His record speaks for itself, he is 1 from 20 over rules as a racehorse, so is hardly the most trustworthy horse, but I thought he shaped better than his final position of 6th/10 at Leicester the time before last. He is a keen goer through his races, which is never ideal, but he travelled strongly over 2m 6f, so I'm hoping this drop back to 2m 4f will be perfect for him. He has run a decent race over 2m at this track before, so he clearly appreciates this venue and he was staying on over 2m, so that's clearly too short.
This race doesn't appear to have any front runners, which might be a problem if they don't decide to go forward on Legendary Rhythm as if they go a crawl he will pull his chances away. However, if for some miracle he settles better, I think they will be happy to sit behind and let his natural pace take him through the race and pounce late. He's running off a mark of 77 and this race isn't full of well-handicapped horses, but I do believe when the penny drops with this horse he will be getting a win soon.
When I was in Paris I did actually manage to watch some races on the sly and I saw GETTING CLOSER run at Leicester. This horse put up a good fight to the favourite that day and though he is a winner over 3m over PTPs it looked like he needed to drop back in trip as he was knackered after jumping the last and that saw today's rival, Santon swoop past him after catching a second wind.
If you watched that race you'd have seen the mistakes that Santon was making, and he was off the bridle a long way from home, so I don't think today's trip will suit, whereas I think it will be better for Getting Closer who jumped nicely throughout but simply got tired late home. They are both around the same odds, so effectively is a match bet, unless the two outsiders spring a surprise, but I think Getting Closer is a good bet for Tuesday's racing.
