Racing tips: A first career win looks on the cards for Sexy Rexy at Wolverhampton

One of yesterday's fancies was a NR which left just one runner who jumped extremely badly and was given no chance due to that.

Wolverhampton 5:30 – Visibility 7/1 (0.5pt ew)

This race is quite congested at the top of the market, with many in and around fighting for favourtism and second fav. I think VISIBILITY shouldn't be left out of that equation and at the current odds of 7/1 I think he is the value in this race.

Though this fella hasn't won since December 2022, he has put up some good efforts in defeat, including last time around at this track. He is a regular course visiter, having run here on his last 11 runs, which has yielded 2 wins and a further 4 placed efforts. He's not exactly well-handicapped, but his best form has come over this winter period, so there is chance that he is still improving, albeit at a slower rate than others. I thought his run last time out was a good effort considering the position he had to come from. He was positioned towards the rear, didn't get the easiest of passages through the field, and was running on strongly. They've decided to put him up in trip by an extra furlong today, which should suit based on that recent effort, especially if they go a good pace and he can pick up the pieces if he has to settle for a back spot.

Wolverhampton 6:00 – Sexy Rexy 4/1 (1pt)

I really do like the chances of SEXY REXY in this race. He was looking rather limited from his first four runs as a racehorse, but the step up in trip to 12f made him look like a horse who is definitely capable of winning races, especially one like today where it doesn't look particularly great.

He probably bumped into one at Kempton last time out with the winner doing it in great style, but Sexy Rexy pulled 13L clear of the horse in third. It's hard to weigh up the form from that race, but it's always a very good sign when a horse pulls clear, especially when the odds-on favourite was a further length behind the third horse, and the horse in 6th had won their previous race.

I can see why the Varian horse is favourite, coming from a huge yard with a big reputation and is lightly raced, running on handicap debut, but just because he has a runner in this, doesn't mean it's going to be well-in. I'd like to take my chances against him with a horse who has some cemented form and clearly appreciated the step up in trip lto.

Wolverhampton 7:30 – Astrophysics 5/1 (1pt)

At the age of 11 ASTROPHYSICS will have to put in a career-best for the last couple of years to win this, but his most recent success is better than what it originally looks.

He ran on strongly that day and clocked a decent time, which was in fact quicker than Glorious Charmer‘s race which was the race after. Astro was carrying a larger weight than today's favourite that day and still managed to clock a better time, so the price difference in this seems a bit too far and you're basing it on the fact that Glorious Charmer is on for the hattrick, but he is a 7yo himself and isn't a spring chicken.

Tony Carroll has done well with this horse, he's only managed to win three times since moving in 2021, but he's been a consistent performer and he loves this track. He remains in good form, as does the rider, Dougie Costello, and at the prices, I think he is worth a small win bet.
