The World Rally Championship is considered as one of the best forms of motorsport racing along with the likes of Formula 1. One of the best World Rally Championship events is the Tour de Corse or Rallye de France, which is held in France. The first edition of the Tour de Corse was held in 1956.
In its long history, it has only been held in two places – Corsica and Alsace – and hence the name. The Tour de Corse has been part of the FIA World Rally Championship calendar from the 1973 season. The Tour de Corse 2016 starts on September 30 and concludes on October 2.
The latest edition of the WRC #11 is also likely to be one that has intense competition given that 77 entries have been accepted by the Tour de Corse 2016 organisers. Out of these starts, 12 will feature in the WRC cars. There will be 11 teams part of the WRC2 cars and a further 14 in WRC3 cars. The remaining one entrant will feature in the RGT car. Unsurprisingly, France will have the biggest representation at the event with 49 crew members.
The high level of competition means that the best odds will be difficult to sort out, but there will once again be favourites for this year’s schedule. All the racing at the Tour de Corse is done on tarmac but it is regarded as one of the fiercest races in the WRC calendar. Many drivers have lost their lives at this Tour de Corse including three fatalities in consecutive seasons during the late 1980s.
A Belgian, Gilberte Thirion, managed to win the first ever edition of the Tour de Corse. Bernard Darniche and Didier Auriol, though, hold the record for having won the title a whopping six times in their career. This number remains a record until now. Auriol was the last to achieve this record and his sixth title came in the 1995 season. French drivers have consistently dominated this event and most betting tips are likely to back the same for the 2016 edition.
Sébastien Loeb has been one of the top drivers at rallying in the last decade. Unsurprisingly, he has been the last driver to be successful in four consecutive Tour de Corse events. Bet online solutions are likely to back a new winner at the 2016 event given that no one has managed to defend the title since Loeb.
