British equestrian events are a highlight of the sports scenario in the United Kingdom. Offering numerous opportunities for punters, trainers, and fans, they offer great racing throughout the year. Finding out the best from a year is made possible through the Horse of the Year Show.

Captain Tony Collings gave genesis to the tournament but it was made possible through then Chairman of BSJA, Mike Ansell. As an end of season event, it is held indoors with the possibility to bet as huge as ever. Horse of the Year was first held in 1949, and Harringay Arena played host to the event. Since then, it has moved its home several times to the likes of Wembley and other iconic places. The move to the Equestrian Retail Village in 2003 has provided a lot of opportunities for the tournament to grow.

Entry

Entry to the competition is made possible by qualification, which takes place at individual societies in each part of the United Kingdom like equestrian Birmingham. These are the equestrian shows and countries which are responsible for hosting qualifiers and they are more than 120 strong. Qualification to final is considered extremely tough, and this results in the final being tough as well. The high standards of entry coupled with a tough fight in the final has seen interest among fans rise every year.

Competitions

A range of competitions is scheduled in order to find the best horse of them all. These include international show jumping, Showing Finals, and British National Show Jumping finals. The United Kingdom is often seen as the destination to witness the best thoroughbreds in action and the Horse of the Year show only emphasise this aspect. The convergence of the best horses in one place unsurprisingly results in the occurrence of the best odds.

Birmingham has received a major boost since the show has been taking place in the Midlands. NEC Arena in Birmingham has allowed the show to expand to great heights. The increase in the number of visitors to record heights has also been of major benefit to Horse riding Birmingham.

For the 2016 event, there will be four wild cards. A larger number of wild card entrants is expected to increase the possibility of more unlikely horses winning the event. These wildcards are decided by picking horses, which have had a consistent return of many points while failing to qualify for the Horse of the Year 2016 at the same time.
