2017 Tour de Yorkshire Promises to Be Toughest Yet

The Tour de Yorkshire is a cycling race held over three days in Yorkshire, England. Began in May 2015, it has been part of the UCI Europe Tour. Amaury Sports Organisation (ASO) is behind the competition, which has been built as a legacy event to take advantage of the 2014 Tour de France visit. The opening two stages of 2014 Tour took place in this county. The growing popularity of the event has also been met with a surprise change, as the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire will see the women’s event get more prize money than the men’s event.

Route Map

The centre of Bradford will be on the rise map for the first time. Besides, the two world Heritage sites in Yorkshire – located in Fountains Abbey and Saltaire – will also be part of the event. One of the primary factors behind the growing popularity of this race is the tourism factor. The 2017 race begins on April 28 and concludes on April 30. Just as in the previous editions, the hardest aspect of the Tour de Yorkshire would be at the end. After starting at Bridlington, the race will conclude at Sheffield.

2017 Stages

The Bridlington to Scarborough marks the beginning of the event and it is a 173 km stage. This will be followed by the 122.5 km stage from Tadcaster and Harrogate. The toughest aspect of the race will come in the 194.5 km between Bradford to Fox Valley in Sheffield. The final stage consists of eight categorised climbs, which will test every reader to the maximum. Even though there are some flats in and around Huddersfield, it is expected to be an extremely tough end to the tour. The finishing circuit includes four classified climbs.

Tour de Yorkshire 2017: Riders to Witness

The incredible relentlessness of Yorkshire's roads will definitely provide a worthy winner. Plus, the nature of the course will mean that the riders could do really well, making it basically impossible to pick "favourite", as such.

A total of 5 ProContinental teams and 7 WorldTour teams are on the starting list of the men's race, and they will be followed by 5 UK dom. Continental teams. Plus, there will be a Great Britain national team as well. It will make a modest, yet competitive field.

Some riders are worth watching, and they are Steven Kruijswijk (from LottoNL-Jumbo), Samuel Sanchez (from BMC racing), Peter-Nordhaug (from Aqua Blue Sport). The likes of Caleb Ewan (from Orica-Scott), Adam Blythe (from Aqua Blue Sport), and Nacer Bouhanni (from Cofidis) will be competing in sprints. Speaking of the women's race, Anna van der Breggen and Deignan will draw enough crowds to the start line.
