Venus Williams – Stats and Form

Williams suffered a straight sets loss to Karolina Pliskova in a 16-game clash. This was her third defeat in last four matches and it seems that fatigue is catching to Venus, as the 37-year-old is approaching her 50th match in the current season. Venus has struggled with her second serve as she managed to win 32 percent of her second serve points. First serve points percentage was not convincing too, as Venus couldn’t rise it above 61%. In addition to this, her return really lets her down and taking into consideration all the stats, she wasn’t close to a win in this match. However, she can spear of proud in the current season as Venus pulled a return to the top 10 this year, after dropping out of the top 100 in 2011.

Jelena Ostapenko – Stats and Form

World’s number 7 and current Roland Garros title holder Jelena Ostapenko is in a bit better form than her opponent. She was stopped in the semi-finals in the last two tournaments held in Wuhan and Beijing. She didn’t start well in the WTA Finals as Garbine Muguruza took a win in the opening clash after 19 games of the match. Ostapenko won 63 percent of her first serve points, while she managed to take almost a half of her second serve points. Ostapenko hit 21 winners, against to Muguruza’s 10, but her 25 unforced errors and four double faults annulled everything good that she produced and led her to a defeat. This is the first participation in WTA Finals for this 20-year-old and she took a win against top 10 players three times during this season.

This is going to be a narrow match as we have two different types of players. On the one side, Venus is one of the greatest tennis payers in the last decade, she has appeared five times at the end of season event and won the title in 2008. On the other, Jelena is a young and very talented player, and we can count on her top performances in years to come, but her lack of experience cost her a win in the opening match. Fatigue is definitely a constraint for Williams and everyone is very excited to see if she has the reaction on the first match defeat. Our Williams – Ostapenko prediction goes in the favour of more experienced player, Venus Williams and William Hill offer the best value for today’s tennis odds.

Although Ostapenko hasn't played many matches in three sets lately, this one should be a bit different as the hard battle is expected between her and Williams. The winner of the match will still have the chance of qualifying to the semi-finals and it is expected from both players to put their last piece of strength in order to secure a win. Both of them are capable of taking at least one set and the WTA Finals odds are pretty good for this tip. Our Singapore WTA predictions go in favour of a three-set match.
