2017 Wellington Sevens Betting Tips Once Again Back New Zealand for Success

David Giles

New Zealand are once again favourites to succeed in the Wellington Sevens rugby tournament, according to the latest Rugby Sevens predictions.

The Wellington Sevens, which is also known as the New Zealand Sevens, is a popular rugby sevens tournament held annually in New Zealand. The Westpac Stadium in Wellington plays host to this tournament, which was inaugurated in 2000. The 2016-17 edition will be held on 28 and 29 January, 2017. Considered as one of the top events in New Zealand, the tournament not only attracts more than 30,000 spectators each year but it also results in a considerable amount of interest in rugby sevens predictions.

Format

The tournament involves 16 teams which are divided into four pools. Each pool consists of four teams with each team playing against each other only once in the pool stages. Only the top two teams from a pool, which are likely to be predicted by the rugby betting odds, will be eligible to progress into the quarter-finals of the competition. The bottom two teams will compete in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Trophy.

Contestants

The 2017 Wellington Sevens sees the arrival of Papua New Guinea as the only non-core team. They have managed to reach the 16 teams courtesy of ranking as the best non-core outfit in the recent 2016 Oceania Sevens Championship. Even though rugby odds are unlikely to favour Papua New Guinea succeeding in the tournament itself, one can at least expect a decent performance. Last year’s runner-up South Africa and third placed Fiji are also in the mix. They are likely to receive the highest backing, aside from last year’s champions New Zealand, from the 2017 Wellington Sevens betting tips.

History

New Zealand are one of the most successful teams in the competition. It will not be surprising to see the best odds backed in favour of the team coached by Clark Laidlaw. The team has won the championship five times in the last six seasons. England have been the next best outfit with two wins since 2009.

Fiji are the only team outside of England and New Zealand to have won the title since 2008. It will not be surprising to see bet online tips once again backing New Zealand or England combination to become successful in the 2017 edition.

Support

The 2017 Wellington Sevens happens to be one of the well-received events in New Zealand with a regular party atmosphere in the stadiums. The fans dressing up in interesting costumes and also trying to impersonate the personalities like George Bush or comic characters like Men in Black also adds to the appeal of this tournament in terms of betting tips.
