12th July – 11:00 – State of Origin - Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Queensland

Queensland Maroons VS New South Wales NRL Preview

With the series level at 1-1, Queensland have the momentum after taking the second game in the series after a closely fought second game that hinged on a late try by Dane Gagai. New South Wales will know that they were three minutes away from wrapping up their first title since 2014 and though they have injury concerns, they were impressive in the first game and will want to replicate that form going into the final game.

Key Players to Watch

Dane Gagai was the two-try hero for the Maroons in the second game of the series and with the game likely to be a feisty encounter, he could have a major influence on where the State of Origin title ends up. Former NFL star Jarryd Hayne was a try scorer in the both games for New South Wales and his versatility and star appeal mean he is one to look out for.

Both Teams Recent Form

New South Wales were comfortable winners in the first game of the State of Origin series, scoring five tries and keeping the Maroons scoreless in the second-half of the game. The second game was an edgy encounter and was heading towards a New South Wales win, only for a late try to deny them their first title in three years.

Queensland Maroons VS New South Wales Head-to-Head

In recent years the Queensland Maroons have been the dominant force in the State of Origin series picking up 10 out of the last 11 titles, with the 2014 title, New South Wales’ only title in that time. The majority of those series have hinged on a final match winner take all and it’s no different this season.

Outright Odds

  • Queensland Maroons to win at 5/4
  • New South Wales to win at 5/6

Queensland Maroons VS New South Wales Prediction

New South Wales go into the final rubber in with a big chance to pick up a State of Origin title. They have a few injury concerns to deal with, as well as a couple who may miss the game because they are about to become fathers. However, they looked strong in the first game and were on the verge of taking the title, until the last few minutes of the second game and they look the strongest of the two teams. Our betting prediction sees a win for New South Wales.
