IndyCar Series Predictions Once Again Favour Pagenaud or Power for 2017 Title

Miroslaw Jaworski

Defending champion Simon Pagenaud and Will Power are the favourites according to IndyCar odds to win the 2017 series.

The IndyCar series prepares for its 22nd edition when the 2017 season kicks off on March 12. The United States, however, has had a long history when it comes to open wheel racing. This will be the 106th season of such event on a national scale.

The IndyCar series was known as the Indy Racing League between 1996 and 2003. The rename was given after merging with Champ Car racing. The 2017 season for IndyCar series 17 races schedule sees Indianapolis 500 amongst the list. As a result, IndyCar series predictions are focusing heavily on this event. Indianapolis motor Speedway will once again be hosting the event as ever.

Track Information

A total of 16 tracks would be involved in the 2017 season. The Belle Isle Park Raceway in Detroit will be playing host to 2 races. Out of the 17 races, eleven will be held on road courses. The remaining six events will take place on oval tracks. Even though Indianapolis 500 is not necessarily an oval track, it certainly does not come under road classification.

History

France driver Simon Pagenaud comes into the 2017 edition as the champion. He managed to take the championship by getting 659 points compared to Australia’s Will Power, who managed 532. Brazil's Helio Castroneves came third in the 2016 Championship. Pagenaud was a deserved champion after managing five victories in the campaign including the victory in the finale. In doing so, Pagenaud became the first Frenchman to lift the IndyCar title. He has significantly altered the IndyCar betting techniques for 2017.

Americans have constantly dominated in this event with five consecutive successes. Will Power has also been sufficiently successful in recent times and he has been able to take the title to Australia. UK’s Dario Franchitti and Australian Scott Dixon have managed four championships to their name. American Sam Hornish Jr. comes close with three titles.

2016's Champion

The 2016 champion was France's Simon Pagenaud, who managed to score 659 points to 533 for Will Power (Australia). Helio Castroneves (Brazil) was third, followed closely by Graham Rahal and Josef Newgarden (US).

Anyway, Pagenaud dominated with 5 wins, including the unique finale at Sonoma to grab the title. Pagenaud is the first Frenchman who won the IndyCar title and that actually makes five years since an American won the championship - Ryan Hunter-Reay. Dixon owns two titles, and Power does the same, while Pagenaud took the championship from the Aussies to France. Dario Franchitti (US) and Scott Dixon (Australia) are tied with 4 championships. Sam Hornish Jr. (US) is next with three titles.

Predictions for 2017

IndyCar series odds will once again be favouring usual top names like Dixon. Castroneves has been immensely successful when it comes to Indianapolis 500, but he has never won the IndyCar title. He has, however, finished the top six 14 out of the last 16 seasons. Pagenaud looks to be in great shape in order to win the title. However, he has certainly made a huge jump from his 11th place finish in 2015 to becoming a champion. It remains to be seen if he can maintain the push. Power is a great option to back in the IndyCar odds.

IndyCar Betting Advice

Betting on the 2017 IndyCar Series is a lot of fun. You can place bets on various outcomes including racer with the fastest lap, outright winner, and match-up bets. In addition to this, you can make prop bets where you have to pick before the series begins who you believe will win the championship. This bet is obviously very difficult to win, yet the odds are actually huge for these bets and worth the shot in our opinion.
