The Cheltenham Festival is edging closer and on the second day of the festival the feature race is the Queen Mother Champion Chase. The day is also known as Ladies Day at the festival, so this is a real day for the crowd to enjoy. The Champion Chase is over the two mile trip, testing the ability to jump at speed, and we have seen some great horses win this race in the past. Before we head on to our Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase predictions, let’s see who won last year.

We saw a big surprise in this race last season, with Special Tiara taking the race. The long odds on favourite Douvan was disappointing, finishing 7th, but it was later found that he had injured himself when jumping in the race. He was supposed to be out for the season, but the talk right now is he may be able to make a shock return and compete at the festival.
It was third time lucky for Special Tiara last season, having previously only being able to finish third in the race. Although now an 11 year old, he will return to defend his crown, and would have an each way chance in the race. Let’s check our betting tips for horse racing!
This entire race revolves around Altior, a hugely talented horse who has been off the track up until recently and who boasts great horse odds. He won the Arkle Chase at the Festival last season in thrilling fashion, and he looks capable of dominating the two mile chase division for a few years. This is the reason we added him to our Ladies Day racing tips.
The tip to win the Champion Chase is Altior, who is best priced at 8/11 with Betfair right now. He came back as good as ever last time out, and should take a lot of beating. He is currently priced up at a very good price with SportingBet, that is the best price available and he is not likely to get any bigger than that. Many of the horses quoted in the betting for this race right now are likely to run elsewhere, or not at all, which is only going to strengthen Altior’s position at the head of the market.
It was hugely disappointing to hear the news that Altior would miss a big part of the season, but when he did return in February he was fantastic. He comfortably beat Politologue by four lengths that day, showing he was as good as ever and that set up the Queen Mother Champion Chase brilliantly.
If you are looking elsewhere for something to back each way against Altior then the best place to start could be with the grey horse Politologue who was beaten by Altior last time. He is a horse that stays further than this, which means he probably won’t have the speed to keep up with Altior, but it does mean he won’t be short of stamina when they are racing up the hill at the end of the race. Soft ground looks likely at the festival, and that too will play into his strengths, being a great choice for our Ladies Day races tips.
The each way tip for the Champion Chase is Politologue, who is best priced with Winner. He doesn’t look to have the speed to beat Altior, but soft ground will help his stamina come into play, and that gives him a great chance of finishing in the first three.
Politologue is currently at an incredible price with Winner, but I don’t expect that to last too long. He looks to have a great chance, and with other horses near the top of the betting expected to miss this race, he is more than likely going to shorten before the race begins. We don’t think Politologue has the pace to beat Altior in this race, but he looks to have a great chance of finishing in the first three. We hope our Cheletenham Festival tips will bring you profits!
