British Masters 2016 Preview

Milla Backhouse
British Masters 2016 Preview"

The British Masters has returned to the schedule a year ago and this year the host of the event will be Luke Donald. The tournament takes place at The Grove, which was used last in 2006 for the WGC American Express. Although the weather promises some frosty mornings, but with a top field assembled the British Masters promises to be a real top class tournament.

At the Leaderboard

During the four days of that WGC, the leaderboard was filled with British Open professionals and this is necessary to consider this week too. Such specialists as Harrington, Tiger, Els, Cink, Stenson, Scott and Poulter were present in the Open and appeared in the leaderboard. And this week we will certainly see a mixture of Open and Wentworth.

The Favourites

It seems that Wiesberger is not the strongest option this week. Although he played well lately, but with the quality to be tucked in behind, other may seem more favourable options. Do not forget about Noren’s misfortune last weekend at Dunhill Links. A good reason not to invest money in him, isn’t it?

We would like to attract your attention to five names that are worth your attention as we can see it. The first in the list is the English Tommy Fleetwood. He has a top record in this tournament, excluding Ross Fisher, so we think that his chances are the highest. Although he did not show anything decent the previous year or so, last month he achieved some good results that are worth consideration. His last 15 tournaments have the following view 67-67-69-71-68-71-66-64-70-65-66-72-67-70-68. Not bad results? And the Grove can be a good field for him.

It is a three-lined holes field that will certainly suit him. Not to mention his second ranking last week in GIR. It seems that his price 33/1 is not very exciting, but why not?

Our second name in the list is Ross Fisher and his price is 20/1. He has two runner-up finishes on the trot, but he always finds the way not to win. But this week everything can change. Furthermore, his play and his value are much higher than that of Wiesberger, Noren, Hatton, and Lowry.

One more English player is worth our attention. This is David Horsey. Last week at Dunhill he hit 79% of fairways and was the 12th. More than that, nobody finished above him last week from his third draw. He proved his form in two top-five finishes at Italian Open and the KLM. His price is 66/1, which is rather tempting.

Rentao Paratore, the Italian teenager, comes next with the price of 101/1. He could be a real breakthrough following Matt Fitzpatrick last year. He entered the top 20s in the Danish Made and European Open recently and top 10s in the Omega Crans and the Dunhill Links last week.

The last in our list is Gregory Havret with the price of 140/1. He was the 7th in the European Open, the 5th in driving accuracy last week. He started with terrible 4 over par at Caroustie but mustered with a 14 under par total during the last 3 days to notch a top 20 finish. Therefore, such a performance can be a good sign.
