In the last chance to get their international juices flowing before their more important World Cup Qualifying fixtures, Switzerland entertain Belarus in Neuchâtel. The Swiss have been in sensational form since their European Championship exit to Portugal last summer.
Under Vladimir Petković, the home side have built a reputation for being a dogged and determined outfit and ahead of our Switzerland vs Belarus preview, they are on a run of five straight victories - A sequence that included a hugely impressive 2-0 win over European Champions Portugal.
It would be remiss of me before my Switzerland vs Belarus predictions, to not mention that despite Belarus’ poor recent results, they are one of Europe’s improving football nations, notwithstanding the fact that Igor Kriushenko’s side have lost three games on the bounce, failing to score a single goal in the process.
Belarus have actually only won once in seven fixtures overall in an underwhelming run stretching back to the beginning of last September. Their only victory in that span came in a friendly win in Greece.
It won’t surprise you to learn that our Switzerland vs Belarus picks heavily favour the home side whose recent form has made the rest of Europe sit up and take notice. It must be noted however that the Swiss are not prolific goalscorers – they only managed two and one goal in their most recent wins over Latvia and Finland respectively.
Having said that, the Swiss are the fancied side with the bookies for this international fixture and with good reason. I tend to agree with the bookies here, this should be a routine home win for Switzerland against Belarus.
