Pepe Mel’s dream start to life as Deportivo boss had appeared to have come to a resounding halt in their last few games, but a 2-0 win over Malaga last weekend has secured their LaLiga safety.
While Depor battled for survival, Real Sociedad were busy playing extremely well during a 3-2 defeat to Barcelona at Camp Nou, with the hosts set to benefit from the fact their opponents now have little to play for.
Eusebio’s men have stuttered considerably in the race for Europa League football of late, dropping points against rivals such as Villarreal, Eibar and Athletic Bilbao since February, making the business end of the season especially important for the Basque side.
Deportivo have won just one game on the road in LaLiga this season, which took the form of a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijon last month, and it doesn’t appear likely that they will be doubling their tally this weekend.
Juanmi and Willian Jose are both available for the home side, but Joselu has also looked dangerous for Depor in recent games.
The away side have improved under Pepe Mel, but it is hard to look beyond a home win for Real Sociedad, not least because they have been playing very well and desperately need three points.
