Supporters are in for a captivating evening as 4th plays 3rd at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night. With both sides involved in end-to-end midweek cup fixtures against Roma and Juventus respectively, it will be interesting to see how big a part fatigue plays in proceedings.
Despite their Coppa Italia defeat to Roma on Tuesday, Lazio went through on aggregate giving everyone at the club an enormous boost ahead of Napoli’s visit. The Biancocelesti haven’t lost in 8 Serie A games, winning 6 of those to keep them firmly in contention for a Champions League place. Italian striker Ciro Immobile is on fire and has scored 9 goals in his last 10 games in all competitions.
Napoli are Serie A’s top scorers, netting 69 times in the league so far. They also have the league’s best away record – they have lost just twice on their travels all season. Their league form hit a rocky patch when Napoli were still involved in the Champions League knockout stages, but since their elimination to Real Madrid, they have won 2 from 3 in Serie A. This is a really tough one to call. Both sides are in terrific form. They drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture between the 2 back in early November and while that wasn’t the highest scoring encounter, we should still expect goals at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening. In 6 of Napoli’s last 7 fixtures, there have been over 2.5 goals – they are the Serie A’s great entertainers. Similarly, in 3 of Lazio’s last 4, there have also been over 2.5 goals. The outright result markets are too unpredictable for this one, so it makes sense to play in the goal markets. William Hill have odds of 13/8 for there to be over 1.5 goals in the first half on Sunday, which is one of the better prices on offer. Belgian forward Dries Mertens is 11/10 to score anytime for Napoli with the same bookies and Lazio’s red hot Ciro Immobile is 5/4 in the same market. Either bet would be a good one.
