Bayern will be looking to maintain or even extend their eight-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga this season, with Mainz set to be the team to suffer for Die Roten’s Champions League elimination.
A 4-2 defeat at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday knocked Bayern out of European competition, with Carlo Ancelotti’s men now only focusing on winning the league title yet again.
Bayern have dropped points in their last two away games in the Bundesliga, with Hoffenheim and Leverkusen ensuring that RB Leipzig have had their fair share of opportunities to try and close the gap in the title race.
Mainz, however, were the last team to beat Die Roten at Allianz Arena in the German top flight, all the way back in March of last year. That 2-1 triumph has been followed by total dominance.
Manuel Neuer is sidelined due to injury for the home side, with the Germany international picking up a foot injury during their 4-2 loss against Real Madrid on Tuesday.
Mainz have won just one of their last 10 away games in the Bundesliga, and a trip to the Allianz Arena won’t make it any easier at all.
