‘That stood out’: Legend’s shock Jones power claim as key to success revealed — UFC 285 Guide

UFC commentator Daniel Cormier boldly claimed Jon Jones does “not punch very hard” and believes the former champ must use all of his skill against a bigger Ciryl Gane.

Jones is set to make his heavyweight debut against Gane on Sunday at UFC 285, with the winner to take home the vacant heavyweight title after Francis Ngannou’s exit from the promotion.

Cormier and Jones enjoyed a heated and longstanding rivalry with the latter winning both fights, although the result of the latter was changed to a no contest when Jones tested positive for an anabolic steroid.

With Cormier no longer competing inside the octagon and on the commentary desk, he had one key tip for Jones in his upcoming battle against Gane.

“I think he’s gonna have to use his skill because I’ll tell you this right now: Jones did not punch very hard,” Cormier said.

“That was one of the things that stood out about him. Now, he kneed hard, he kicked hard, he elbowed hard. He did a lot of things very well, but in terms of his punching ability, he didn’t have, like, jarring power.

“Now, gaining 30 pounds, maybe he gets a little bit of a heavier punch. But he will never match Ciryl Gane in terms of the punching power.

“He’s gonna need his skill in order to do this.”
