The Rugby championship for the nations in the southern hemisphere has only been going on for the last few years, but it has proved to be incredibly popular. South Africa, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand are the competing countries. The tournament is operated as a joint venture by the national rugby union of these four countries. There is a lot of interest in the 2016 Rugby Championship odds largely because the 2016 edition will see a return to the six round format. It was temporarily given up for the 2015 edition because of the Rugby World Cup.

New Zealand are the overwhelming favourites if 2016 Rugby Championship bet online odds are anything to go by. Australia are at a distant second but closely followed by South Africa. Argentina are the rank outsiders when it comes to winning the title in 2016.

New Zealand

As the reigning champions of the Rugby World Cup, New Zealand are justifiable favourites for the 2016 Rugby Championship since they are unbeaten in all competitions since then. The strength in depth of the New Zealand team is surprising even though they had to deal with the retirement of Richie MaCaw and Dan Carter. The players showed impressive form even in the Investec Super Rugby competition. It has presented the coach with a difficult decision with regard to team selection.

The odds for New Zealand to win against Australia are 1/12.

Australia

The team may have reached the Rugby World Cup final just under 12 months ago, but the form has been inconsistent since then. The 3-0 loss against England in front of their own supporters is a particularly concerning aspect. Five French players and four newcomers have been included into the 33-man squad by coach Michael Cheika.

South Africa

South African coach Allister Coetzee has made seven changes to the squad that did not perform well against Ireland in a recent test series. Even though South Africa are extremely strong in a number of aspects, they have to go a long way before matching the firepower possessed by New Zealand. The long list of injuries also does not help South Africa in their quest for the title.

Argentina

Betting tips do not expect Argentina to be in amongst the favourites for the title at the 2016 Rugby Championships even though the team reached the 2015 World Cup semi-final. However, competing against the likes of New Zealand is expected to give them the much needed exposure of playing against the top teams.

The odds for Argentina to win against South Africa are 28/17 and for a draw we have 33/1.
