Andrea Dovizioso Takes Championship Lead as British Moto GP Winner

An exciting British Moto Grand Prix race came to an end with Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso taking the lead at the famed Silverstone circuit. The event started with Spain’s Marc Marquez in the lead with 16 points on Dovizioso, but ended with the Italian as the British Moto GP winner, followed by last year’s winner Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi in the second and third places.

The Story of the 2017 British Moto Grand Prix Unfolded

Dovizioso was not the fan favorite when it came to British MotoGP predictions, as many believed Marquez would remain in the lead and previous winner Viñales may surge ahead as well.

While Rossi was leading the pack most of the day, ahead of Marquez, Viñales and Dovizioso, he couldn’t keep his lead till the end, even after Marquez had to retire due to an engine problem amidst much drama.

Dovizioso took advantage of an opening and took the lead with only three laps remaining and crossed the chequered flag for a 9-point lead on Marquez, who is chasing his 4th MotoGP title.

The main pack was followed closely by Cal Crutchlow, who came in 4th on his Honda, while Jorge Lorenzo and Johann Zarco fought for 5th place.

Zarco landed 6th, followed by Pedrossa at 7th, Scott Redding at 8th and Alex Rins and Alvaro Bautista making 9th and 10th respectively.

The Win is a Confidence Booster

Rossi leading the lap

The Silverstone circuit, which was formerly in use by the Royal Airforce, is among the most challenging ones in the campaign, spanning 3.67 miles and featuring 18 corners. Rossi, who used his experience to navigate the circuit and stay in the lead through most of the day, applauded Dovizioso for his victory, even though the latter wasn’t the fastest rider that day.

The win is a confidence booster for the Italian and he will be taking the British Moto GP results into the upcoming San Marino Grand Prix in September, according to our Moto GP odds, hoping to emulate the same performance.

If the Ducati rider manages to win in San Marino, he would become the first to have three successive MotoGP wins since the 2015 event, where Lorenzo secured four in a row.

Conclusion

The next race in the campaign, at San Marino, will be on the Misano circuit which was built in 1969. The Misano circuit is another iconic track that has undergone several renovations in the last few decades and was named the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in remembrance of the MotoGP star who belonged from the region and passed away in 2011.
