Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) organises one of the top darts events in the world, Grand Slam of Darts. The Grand Slam of Darts 2016 event is scheduled to take place at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall from November 12 to 20. The first such event started in 2007 with a growing need to establish a World Cup-like event.
One of its kind in the United Kingdom, invitations to the best players are given out to British Darts Organisation (BDC) members and it is no surprise that the event has been dominated by PDC stars since its inception. The upcoming event is expected to be more of the same according to darts online betting tips.
Phil Taylor is the most successful player at this tournament after having won the title an incredible six times. Incredibly, he has lost only one final he has taken part. The Englishman has had such a dominating effect in the tournament that a huge gap exists between him and the rest of the pack. Only Dutchman have broken Taylor’s dominance with Raymond van Barneveld winning the title in 2012 and Michael van Gerwen winning last year’s edition. As a result, it would be good to back a Dutchman in the 2016 Grand Slam of Darts odds.
Since the Grand Slam of Darts sees both PDC and BDC players taking part at the same time, competition is usually intense. The competition includes 24 top PDC players taking part straight away along with eight coming in from qualifiers. The addition of a further eight players from the BDC increases the competition even further. Dart odds, though, tend to favour PDC players who have largely dominated this event.
PDC and BDC players competing in the same tournament is something not new, as the latter have taken part in the likes of the World Grand Prix and World Matchplay. However, this occurred only between 1997 and 2001 due to the Tomlin Order – made primarily in order to give players more freedom to take part in various events. Since 2002, however, there have been heavy restrictions. In such a scenario, the presence of the Grand Slam of Darts adds to the darts betting scenario.
Some of the perennial players in the tournament are the likes of Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson, Adrian Lewis, James Wade, Mervyn King, and Raymond van Barneveld. They have taken part in all of the nine editions, and they are likely to receive the best odds.
