Vettel and Hamilton Favourites for Bahrain Grand Prix 2017

The Bahrain Grand Prix is a unique race in the Formula 1 calendar because it is the first F1 event to be held in the Middle East. Organising a race in the sweltering heat of the Middle East deserts involves a lot of challenges. Teams have to go through numerous preparations in order to ensure that the heat and dust do not compromise the chances of success. The 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix will be held at the Bahrain International Circuit.

When is the 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix?

Racing at the Bahrain International Circuit will start on April 14 (Friday) and will conclude on April 16 (Sunday) with the final Grand Prix moments. The Grand Prix of Bahrain will air on Channel 4 in the UK. There will also be live coverage on TV stations such as Sky Sports F1 and also on Sky Sports Q (for those seeking to watch in Ultra-HD). Live coverage will begin at 3.50pm on Sunday.

In addition, Sky Sports will start its full broadcast of the 3-day event with the first F1 practice session on Friday, April 14th at 12pm BST.

History

The first Bahrain Grand Prix was held in 2004. Since then, it has been a regular fixture in the Formula One calendar. It has often been on the third place in the calendar year, although there have been exceptions, like in 2006 and 2010.

In order to combat the heat, the decision was made to make the Bahrain Grand Prix a night event. It is only the second such race after the Singapore Grand Prix, in 2008. Fernando Alonso is the most successful driver in this race with three wins to his name, while Ferrari have been the successful constructor with four wins. Mercedes have dominated recent races with three consecutive wins starting from 2014.

Competition

Nico Rosberg is the defending champion, but he will not be at the grid to defend his title following his retirement. The race is likely to be contested between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton who have a joint lead in the Drivers’ Championship after having taken the same number of points.

Hamilton was on pole in the 2016 Bahrain Grand Prix. In terms of the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes come into the race with a slender advantage over Ferrari. Germans and British dominated this race by winning the last five events. Fernando Alonso is the only driver outside these two nationalities to win the Bahrain Grand Prix since 2009.

What Type of Duel Will We See in Bahrain?

Two down, eighteen to go. However, we should not wish this season away. Lewis Hamilton's incredible victory in Shangai last weekend gave the start to the battle at the top of the Drivers' Standings for the 2017 season. After his win in Australia, Vettel got a 2nd place. The multiple world champions earned 43 points each.

The question we need to answer now is whether the battle in Bahrain will be fought between the two, or will the Dutchman make it a 3-horse race? Exactly, 19-year-old Max Verstappen is doing great nowadays, and he has his chances.

Conclusion

We believe it will be a great weekend for Mercedes and Hamilton. Since Nico Rosberg is not there to squabble with in 2017, it could easily be not that tough. However, Vettel of Ferrari is still there and he has great potential. Hamilton declared after the Chinese Grand Prix that he loves to fight with Vettel, a 4-time world champion. Bahrain Grand Prix is definitely going to show some interesting action.
