Athletissima 2016 -- Major Boost for Lausanne Sport
Athletissima 2016 is all set to feature a number of Olympians according to Director Jacky Delapierre.
Olympics is not the only event where athletics takes centre stage. Athletissima is an event that confirms this aspect, as it is a hugely popular event for athletics. Taking place in Switzerland every year, Athletissima was initially part of the IAAF Super Grand Prix. The latter only had five prestigious events in its lineup and Athletissima was one of them. Later, Athletissima has been part of the IAAF Diamond League. Coming under the wings of Diamond league Stockholm has been extremely beneficial to Athletissima since there has been a growing number of bookmakers offering Athletissima odds.
In terms of history, Athletissima has a proud tradition of being associated with several aspects of athletics since 1977. The first edition of the tournament was held in Stade Pierre de Coubertin. However, it has been conducted at the Stade olympique de la Pontaise since 1986. This track and Field tournament usually takes place between June and July, but unexpected delays have meant that the 2016 Athletissima will begin towards August.
Steps to a Winning Bet
The vast array of events within the Athletissima means that punters have a lot of betting tips to go through before making a good decision. Events for the men ranges from 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 3000 m, and 5000 m in the running category. There are also 110 meter and 400 m hurdles. Usain Bolt is one of the popular names to hold a record at the Athletissima. His record of finishing the 200 m in 19.58 seconds was set back in 2012. One of the oldest standing records in the men’s category belongs to that of Edwin Moses in the 400 m hurdle after he completed the event in 47.14.
Who Are The Favourites?
Due to the presence of several Olympians at the tournament, 2015 saw a number of new records being set in different categories. Christian Taylor set a new record with regard to triple jump and David Storl achieved a distance of 22.2 m in shot put. Athletissima 2016 will also be the first race for Kendra Harrison after the world record 100 m hurdle in London’s Diamond league.
European indoor champion Selina Buchel is a favourite for the 800m title - as she is the defending champion. She also broke the Swiss record last year with 1:57.95. Lea Sprunger and Kariem Hussein will compete in the women's and men's 400m hurdles respectively.
Athletissima 2016 Director Jacky Delapierre has confirmed that as many as six Olympic champions and 20 medallists will be taking part in the upcoming tournament. He expects this number to increase as the Rio 2016 Olympics comes to a close. The presence of numerous Olympians will be a huge bonus to lausanne sport and the number of best odds available from bookmakers will only increase with growing interest.
