Betting Terminology - All You Need To Know About Different Types Of Bets

Types of bets

A bet with 4 or more winning selections with the return to give the stake for the following selection.

A bet with 6 selections numbered from 1 to 6. The selections are combined into 2 Patents (1-2-3 or 4-5-6), 1 Yankee(2-3-4-5) and an Accumulator (1-2-3-4-5-6).

9 or more selections to create a Full Cover bet including a straight Accumulator and perms of all lesser Accumulators (4-Folds, 5-FOLDS, etc.), down to Trebles and Doubles. E.g.,

9 selections- 502 bets;

10-1,013;

11- 2,036;

12- 4.083.

9 or more selections to create a Full Cover bet including a straight Accumulator and perms of all lesser Accumulators (4-Folds, 5-Folds, etc.), down to Trebles, Doubles and Singles. E.g.,

9 selections- 511 bets;

10-1,023;

11- 2,047;

12- 4,095.

5 selections to create 26 bets including a 5-Fold Accumulator, permed 4-Folds (5), permed Trebles (10) and permed Doubles (10). It is also known as Super Yankee.

A bet with 2 selections and the return from the first one is brought forward to give the stake for the second one. Both selections must win.

The same as Single Stakes About, but the double the original stake appears from the return of each Single, to invest a further Single on the other selection.

A bet with 5 selections numbered from 1 to 5. The selections are combined into sequential multipliers of 5 Singles (1,2,3,4,5), 4 Doubles (1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5), 3 Trebles (1-2-3, 2-3-4, 3-4-5), 2 Four-Folds (1-2-3-4 or 2-3-4-5) and an Accumulator (1-2-3-4-5).

4 selections to create 23 bets including a Yankee and permed Single Stakes About (6). It is also known as Super Round Robin.

8 selections to create 247 bets including an 8-Fold Accumulator, permed 7-Folds (8), permed 6-Folds (28), permed 5-Folds (56), permed 4-Folds (70), permed Trebles (56) and permed Doubles (28).

8 selections to create 303 bets including a Goliath and permed Single Stakes About (28).

8 selections to create 255 bets including an 8-Fol Accumulator, permed 7-Folds (8), permed 6-Folds (28), permed 5-Folds (56), permed 4-Folds (70), permed Trebles (56), permed Doubles (28) and Singles (8).

6 selections to create 57 bets including a 6-Fold Accumulator, permed 5-Folds, permed 4-Folds (15), permed Trebles (20) and permed Doubles (15).

6 selections to create 87 bets including a Heinz and permed Single Stakes About (15).

4 selections to create 15 bets including a 4-Fold Accumulator, permed Trebles (4), permed Doubles (6) and a Single for each selection. It is similar to Yap, but if all selections win, there is a bonus. If one selection wins, there is a consolation. A 10% bonus is used and a double with consolation.

5 selections to create 31 bets including a 5-Fold Accumulator, permed 4-Folds (5), permed Trebles (10), permed Doubles (10) and a Single for each selection. If all selections win, there is a bonus. If one selection wins, there is a consolation. A 20% bonus is used and a double with consolation.

6 selections to create 63 bets including a 6-Fold Accumulator, permed 5-Folds (6), permed 4-Folds (15), permed Trebles (20), permed Doubles (15) and a Single for each selection. If all selections win, there is a bonus. If one selection wins, there is a consolation. A 25% bonus is used and a double with consolation.

A bet with 7 selections numbered from 1 to 7. The selections are combined into sequential multipliers of 7 Singles (1,2,3,4,5, 6, 7), 6 Doubles (1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7), 5 Trebles (1-2-3, 2-3-4, 3-4-5, 3-4-5, 4-5-6, 5-6-7), 4 Four-Folds (1-2-3-4, 2-3-4-5, 3-4-5-6, 4-5-6-7), 3 Five-Folds (1-2-3-4-5, 2-3-4-5-6, 3-4-5-6-7), 2 Six-Folds (1-2-3-4-5-6, 2-3-4-5-6-7) and an Accumulator (1-2-3-4-5-6-7).

3 selections to create 7 bets including a Treble, permed Doubles (3) and a Single for each selection.

A bet with 6 selections numbered from 1 to 6. The selections are combined into sequential multipliers of 6 Singles (1,2,3,4,5,6), 5 Doubles (1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6), 4 Trebles (1-2-3, 2-3-4, 3-4-5, 4-5-6), 3 Four-Folds (1-2-3-4, 2-3-4-5, 3-4-5-6), 2 Five-Folds (1-2-3-4-5-, 2-3-4-5-6) and an Accumulator (1-2-3-4-5-6).

3 selections to create 10 bets including a Trixie and permed Single Stakes About (3).

It is an Any To Come bet with 3 selections to create 3 bets including 3 Singles. The return on every Single (up to the primary stake amount) is applied to invest a Double on the other 2 selections.

The same as a Rounder but the primary stake is taken from the return of every Single, to invest a Double on the other 2 selections.

A bet with 1 winning selection.

It is an Any To Come bet with 2 selections to create 2 bets including 2 Singles. The return on every Single (up to the primary stake amount) is applied to invest a further Single on the other selection. It is also known as Up And Down, a Cross Bet, a Twist and Vice Versa.

5 selections to create 46 bets including a Canadian and permed Single Stakes About (10).

7 selections to create 120 bets including a 7-Fold Accumulator, permed 6-Folds (7), permed 5-Folds (21), permed 4-Folds (35), permed Trebles (35) and permed Doubles (21).

7 selections to create 162 bets including a Super Heinz and permed Single Stakes About (21).

7 selections to create 127 bets including a 7-Fold Accumulator, permed 6-Folds (7), permed 5-Folds (21), permed 4-Folds (35), permed Trebles (35), permed Doubles (21) and Singles (7).

A bet with 3 selections and the return from the first one is brought forward to give the stake for the second one, and the return from the second one is brought forward to give the stake for the third one. All selections must win.

3 selections to create 4 bets including a Treble and permed Doubles (3).

A bet with 9 selections numbered from 1 to 9 and put in 3 lines of 3 selections. The selections are combined on the horizontal (1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8-9), vertical (1-4-7, 2-5-8, 3-6-9) and diagonal lines (1-5-9, 3-5-7). There are 4 variants of the Union Jack: Union Jack Treble (8 bets); Union Jack Trixie (32 bets); Union Jack Patent (56 bets); Union Jack Round Robin (80 bets).

4 selections to create 11 bets including a 4-Fold Accumulator, permed Trebles (4) and permed Doubles (6).

4 selections to create 15 bets including a 4-Fold Accumulator, permed Trebles (4), permed Doubles (6) and a Single for each selection. It is similar to Lucky 15, but there is no bonus or consolation.

Betting terms

Is the place part of an each way bet with insufficient participants to guarantee a return on any place except the 1st. E.g., during a horse racing with less than 5 runners. The place part of the bet gives the same return as the win part. It becomes a double stake win-only bet.

Bets that you place in advance, in accordance with the proposed coefficients to your chosen event that did not start. In other words, it is a long-term stake in the short term (e.g., bets on the next round of the championship, which will be held a week later). If the event does not happen, the bet is not played.

A term denoting a conditional bet whereby a proportion of the return from a selection is brought forward to give the stake for the next selection.

When two or more participants have equal chances to win. The odds are equal lowest for them.

When 2 or more participants cannot be separated and finish in the same position. It influences the return on a bet. If there is a dead head selection in a bet, the bet selection is settled to only half the stake.

A type of bet, which consists of two equal-sized bets. One bet is calculated in the first place, and the second - on one of the prizes. Often, the second bet is determined by a coefficient that is 1/4 or 1/5 of the ratio of net win.

a term to show how the return from a selection in an each way multiple or any to come bet, is divided to give the win and place stakes for the next selection in the bet. Sometimes it means splitting the return into equal parts.

The odds of 1/1, i.e. the win is equal to the stake amount.

If two horses or dogs have the lowest rate, they are referred to as “Joint favourites” and the bet is divided equally between them. If there are three or more horses or dogs with the lowest coefficient, they are also called “Joint Favourites” and, accordingly, the bet is divided between them.

A bet of an Accumulate type that comprises two or more selections.

A selection that is withdrawn from the race that does not participate in the race, for which it was declared. Bets with more than one selection are adjusted to cater void selections. Doubles with the selection turn into Singles, Trebles into Doubles, etc.

Factors or the chance to win. E.g., when the odds are 2/1, the return is calculated as double the stake plus the primary stake.

Odds are higher than 2 (when the net gain is higher than the sum of the most bets).

Odds are less than 2 (when the net gain is less than the stake itself).

The bet of the “system” type also known as permutation. A complete set of combinations of the particular type applied across all selections. E.g., Doubles are permed from 3 selections.

A bet on a team / participant / horse that finishes in the top three, four or five, depending on the number of the participants.

Position which determines the change in the coefficient for Place bets (getting into the group of leaders).

The return without the total stake or it is also called net winnings.

A payout bet comprising the stake for winning and void bets.

Means Tattersalls rule 4c. It is an industry wide deduction that is made to winning bets if there is a non-runner in the event after the customer has placed a bet and taken a fixed price. The maximum deduction cannot exceed 90%.

A participant you predict to win.

Rate or bet, but rather the sum itself.

Money put on all bets. It is calculated by multiplying the unit stake by the number of bets.

Money put on every bet separately.

It means that your bet will be returned. You win nothing and lose nothing. E.g., If the handicap given is a whole goal, +1, -1, 0, -2 etc., and the result means the settlement is a draw, the bet is voided.
